(0322) 322356 Lamongan 62251 Website : www.um.lamongan.ac.id – Email : um.lamongan@yahoo.co.id ABSTRACT Stress is an unpleasant condition where there are demands in a situation as a burden or beyond the limits of individual abilities. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of nurse communication with the patient's family stress level in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Muhammadiyah Hospital Lamongan. The design of this study is correlational analytic with cross sectional approach with consecutive sampling method with a sample of 30 respondents. Data was taken through questionnaire Depression Anxiety Stress Scales (DASS 42) and questionnaire of Mandala. Data was tabulated and analyzed with the Spearman rank test with SPSS software (v.22.0). The results showed a very strong correlation between the nurse communication variables and the stress level of the patient's family variables with a correlation coefficient of 0,878. With almost the majority of patients' families perceiving nurses communication is not good (43.3%) with moderate stress levels (56.7%). Show the results of this study, an evaluation is necessary to increase the professionalism and credibility of nurses performing nurse care, especially in terms of therapeutic communication to reduce stress levels for patients and families in the hospital.
